When You’re Moving, Planning Is Everything

A detailed consultation

First our expert will undertake a detailed fact finding audit.  This allows the team to be prepared on the day and enables them to anticipate potential issues, plan parking and access, smoothing your moving process and saving you time and money.

Receive your planning pack

Print it out and use it to assist in planning for the pick up and delivery of your possessions.  When you decide where you want things to go and the names for your new rooms you can label your boxes and/or your furniture items to match.  This helps our planning, and helps you envisage your new home too.

This plan is just a guide.  If you change your mind on the day, we can accommodate, don’t worry. 

Moving a big family or an office?

If you have four or more bedrooms or an office with over 8 people we recommend visiting you for a FREE site inspection and a fixed price quote. Just ask your moving consultant.

Moving in or out of an apartment?

Save time and stress on the day by calling your body corporate and planning parking arrangements, find out about height restrictions and lift access. You will need to book in you lift, different buildings have very different rules so its always best to check. Or ask your consultant at Your Local Movers and they’ll do it for you.

Moving into storage?

We have secure on site storage that will always save you time and money. By storing with us you don’t pay any driving time to the delivery or pickup of your items. We also always have easy access to your items so no long walks at storage facilities and no slow lifts. Best of all you only pay for exactly the space you need and we can adjust your volume at any time. All of these factors lead to huge storage savings.

Phase 2: Packing And Labeling: Pre-order Boxes And Get Started

Take delivery of your packing materials

Your Move consultant will help you decide what packing materials you’ll need.  We always suggest getting a little bit more than anticipated. If you don’t use all your boxes they’re simply taken off your final bill.

You’ll receive a copy of our moving guide to help you plan for the day

Our guide focuses on preparation, with plenty of handy tips like: 

  • Prepare yourself by measuring any unusually shaped, oversized pieces of furniture so we can plan for difficult access and so you can be sure they fit the room where you want them.
  • Labeling your boxes means we know where each box is headed at your new premises without having to ask.  This can save hours of your time.  We recommend a systematic approach with each room given a distinct name and then labeled and each corresponding box clearly labeled.
  • If for some reason something doesn’t fit in your new home or office we can store it for you in our secure warehouse until a solution is found.
  • To best protect your possessions and make for a smooth move, we suggest everything smaller than a moving box needs to be packed into a moving box.
  • Packing to move always takes much longer than you anticipate.  Start early and reduce your stress levels as moving day approaches.

Phase 3: Your Moving Day Part 1:  Moving Team Arrives For Move – Pack The Truck

On Your Moving Day, We’re There For You. If You’re Not Satisfied, Then Neither Are We.

We’ll call 30 minutes before we arrive for any bookings made after 7am and give you a two hour arrival window so you’ll know when to be ready.

We’re in constant communication with you.

The first thing your team leader will do once he/she arrives is go through your moving plan with you and plan the fastest way to load your truck. If you have any questions or if something is concerning you, please ask your team leader.

Help with the little things.

We can take apart most things for you, including disassembley of beds or disconnecting the TV.  We can even walk the dog and mow the lawn! Just let us know.

You can be as involved as you like.

If you want to help the team, please do, we just ask you not to get on our vehicle.  No doubt you have many other tasks to be doing, once the original brief is complete, you can get on with them.  And if you have to be elsewhere, we’ll keep in touch by phone.

Phase 4: Your New Home Or Premises: All Items Placed Where You Want Them

Top Tip

If you’ve already pre-labeled your boxes and furniture with their new location in your new home or premises, it saves us time (and you money) because we don’t have to keep asking you where to put everything. 

Pre-planning on arrival

Your team leader will require you for a quick audit and pre-plan before beginning to unpack the truck.  This ensures the smooth unpacking and placement of all your possessions, saves time and avoid double handling.

Unpacking the truck

Because you will have worked with our team through the planning phases in steps 1, 2 and 3, the unpacking process should be easy.  Especially if you’ve pre-labeled all your boxes and furniture. Our experts always pack the truck systematically, so unloading should be seamless and planned to suit the layout of the destination. 

Help To Set Up

Our team members can also help by putting together beds and other pieces of furniture, moving furniture pieces within a room in order to achieve the best position, and they’re experts at getting items through tricky accesses. 

Perfect Placement

It’s your home, so we want you to be happy with the location of each of your possessions before we leave.   Our Movers are mindful of the importance of your moving day and will do everything they can to make sure you’re completely happy with your move and our service, if this means moving entire rooms around for the best effect, we’re happy to help.

Phase 5: Your Final Approval And Payment

Your Team Leader will cross check the placement and treatment of your possessions with you and confirm you are happy before we leave.  You don’t want to be left with a cabinet on the wrong side of the room or beds still in pieces after a long day.

Your Team Leader will then ask for your signature to confirm your job is complete.   Only when you are satisfied with the placement of your furniture and goods will you be invoiced for the day. We have eftpos machines on every vehicle to save you even more time.

We don’t employ call centre people, so when you call us you’ll be speaking to a trained staff member who not only knows what they’re talking about but also understands what you’ll be going through on moving day.

Their job is to sort out exactly what you need so that you’ll have a clear and concise idea of how to best prepare for your move, what things may cause issues on the move day and how to solve those issues should they arise.

Our staff will advise you on how to save time and money and can suggest any extra ways that may help the process run more smoothly and cost-effectively. For example, if they know you are in an apartment with stair access only, they will advise that an extra person be put on the team. That’s because with a third removalist, your move will cost the same amount and take less time! Our telephone consultants will ensure you get the best value for money.

Booking the move: Having the peace of mind that the price we say we charge we do charge – no surprises

Our phone consultants will take all your contact details including mobile phone numbers in case the phone has been cut off on the day, as well as phone numbers of alternative contacts in case of emergencies.

They’ll confirm any special tricks for getting into the properties like security doors, or a hidden entrance. You’ll get a general idea of travel time between the two addresses and then they’ll tell you everything that’s included in the service-what you can expect to get charged for and what’s included.

Moving Out – Your move does not have to be stressful – let our team leader take control so we can run a smooth move for you

On the day, the Team Leader and the team arrive.

Your team leader is your point of contact for the whole move; they’re the one to speak to if you need something disassembled or any details changed. They’ll do a quick inspection of your property to see what’s in your home and the best way to get it out. They will check if anything needs special consideration, such as a family heirloom or piece of antique furniture.

We’ll even take the fridge later on in the move so you won’t have defrosted food all over the place! After explaining to you what’s going to happen and when, our team will begin taking things apart so it will all fit in the truck easily and safely. If there is anything you want to move yourself, we’ll put somewhere separately so that it won’t get in the way of the team, thus fulfilling our OH&S requirements.

We will also pull apart all electronic equipment like televisions, computers etc., so that they can be packed properly and be put back together easily at the other end. Protection of all your worldly goods is paramount.

If you have decided beforehand on helping with the process, we’ll let you know what’s going on first and where and how you can best help us. We can direct you as to the most helpful things you can do. And even if you’re letting us do it all, you’ll know what the plan is. We can advise on the best place in the house for you be or where not to be, especially the kids and the pets!

Moving In-The Gold Service

We unload the truck back to front and so we even put your fridge in first so it stays cold! We put the beds back together at the end of the move for you, hang paintings and put everything back the way you’d like it. All you have to do is sit down, put your feet up and enjoy your new home!

Moving In-The Silver Service

If you don’t want the Gold Service, we can put everything in a particular central location and just move the heavy things into place and then you can do the rest in your own time. It’s entirely up to you. We can even do a bit of both! So if you have a painting that needs to be hung particularly high, we can hang it for you and leave everything else-you do exactly what you want, so you’re in control of the cost. That’s why we do it at an hourly rate! You’re in control of everything.
