Comments Off on Seven Tips to Make Moving into an Apartment Easy
Thinking of moving into an apartment anytime soon? Moving into apartments or units can be a little more difficult than moving into a house and there are a few reasons for that. The biggest reason is the stairs or a lift if you are lucky enough!
Book Lift- This is vital when moving into a busy apartment block with only a few lifts. To do this, you will need to speak to the building manager and organise a suitable time and time frame when you can use the elevator. Be sure to find a time which is suitable for the removalists and the building manager and you will need to find out the estimated time the moving company believe you will need the lift blocked for.
Make sure Furniture will fit- If you are downsizing or simply just moving from a house, you will need to ensure all of your furniture which you are currently using will actually fit in your new apartment. You will need to make sure it will not only fit in the apartment but also the stairs or elevator which it will need to go through to get to your apartment. Be sure to disassemble anything which will need to be broken down prior to the move. This will make moving day go faster and smoother.
Donate old stuff- This is very important especially if downsizing. However moving is always a good time to reassess some of your items which you are not very interested in anymore. There are so many charities around Brisbane which would be more than happy to take on your old pieces of furniture or any other items you wish to giveaway.
Forward mail- Now this tip is relevant whether you are moving into an apartment or a low set home. Any time you move you need to ensure to get your mail forwarded. This can be easily done at any Australia Post outlets.
Organise storage if needed- Is not everything going to fit into the apartment you are moving into and not too sure about donating your items? Well, you should think about organising storage. At Your Local Movers, we actually do provide storage and we only charge you per cubic meter, so if you don’t have a lot of stuff it will most likely work out a lot cheaper.
Label where everything will be going- For the removalists job to be a lot faster on the day we advise you to label all of the boxes by which room they will be moved to. This saves the removalists having to ask you on the day, or you informing them. You will definitely need to label the items if you do decide to move to a storage shed as the movers will want to know where to take what.
Advise moving company of your plans- Advise your chosen movers of all of your plans on the day including; lift arrangements, storage arrangements and any furniture you are worried about not fitting. This is vital to ensure everyone involved has a clear understanding of what will happen on the day
