Comments Off on The Idiots Guide to Removalists Trolleys, Skates and Dollies
At Your Local Movers we use various different types of trolleys; stair climbers, standard box, fridge trolleys, regular skates, piano dollies, cages and customised skates. Our movers are always using these items as it allows for the move to go a lot quicker and it is much easier for them. All of these different types of equipment have different uses and can be used at different times of the move.
The stair climber trolley has three wheels on each side (as seen in the photo) and holds a maximum weight limit of 250 kg. These trolleys are designed to take items downstairs, which is what the six wheels are for. Therefore, we obviously use these stairs for units, townhouses, apartments and houses which only have stair access and there are multiple stairs.
Standard box trolleys are used for exactly that, boxes! They are also used by our movers for general items which fit on the trolley. This trolley holds a maximum weight of 200 kg and all of ours are a red colour. These trolleys only have two wheels and are the most common in the moving industry. Standard trolleys cannot be used when there are a lot of stairs on the job.
Fridge trolleys, once again this is an easy one to guess what it is used for. These trolleys are specially designed for fridges. They all hold a maximum weight of 250 kg and are capable of moving most fridges. Most fridges, including double door ones don’t normally weigh anywhere near 100 kg.
Regular skates are used for heavier and larger items that aren’t able to be lifted onto a trolley or don’t fit on the trolley, such as a heavy cabinet. They are also used to allow the removalists to move lots of boxes at same time. We believe that anything that can fit on wheels should be, this allows the movers to be continually moving and no time to be wasted. Using skates allows items to be kept horizontal rather than having them leant back as they would be on a trolley.
Piano dollies are custom made equipment, especially for moving pianos. Having these dollies do allow us to move pianos, however with these dollies we are not able to move pianos which need to be moved up or down more than 3 steps.
Cages are not used in home removal jobs very often, they are mainly used for our office moves. Cages allow us to pack everything in the cages and then transport the items down the lift or whichever path it needs to go onto our moving truck. The items are then packed into the truck from the cages. Cages save the movers a lot of time, by allowing a lot of items to be packed into the cages, rather than moving individual items down the lift one at a time.
We are able to custom create skates for specific projects and jobs which need to be completed. For example, a property developer needed to transport their apartment replicas around shopping centres. These are not cheap of light items, we worked with the property developer to construct a skate which would be able to hold and easily maneuver around the areas they needed to go.
