When moving internationally it is very common to get the removalist company to pack and unpack your items as this ensures it is covered by your insurance policy.
Prior to the packers arriving at your home, there are a few items around your home you need to ensure do not get packed. When packers are at your home packing they will pack absolutely everything they come across in your home.
We have heard crazy stories from clients on what their removalists packed for them. These items include:
Yes, you read correctly people have arrived at their new home in a new country with the rubbish they had at their last home. Who could think of a better housewarming present? Unfortunately, this is more common that you think so be sure to take all of the rubbish out before the packers arrive or be very clear in your instructions to avoid this happening to you.
You will also need to be sure you have washed all of your clothes and dishes before the packers arrive. To avoid mouldy appliances arriving at your new home be sure you have cleaned all of the food and crumbs out of all kitchen appliances especially the toaster and microwave.
This should be common sense, but it is very easy to forget, at least one week before starting to pack return all movies, books and anything else you may have hired out from your local library or video store. The last thing you want is a crazy bill from the local video store because their movie ended up coming to a new country with you.
Last but not least your toilet brush… You would think this would be pretty self-explanatory for the packers to ensure it’s cleaned prior to it being packed, but sometimes that doesn’t happen. This means you have to be very aware of what the packers are packing and make sure everything is cleaned, especially the toilet brush!
We recommend when moving overseas to supervise the packers when packing so you have a good idea of what they are packing and to make sure they do not pack any of the items above! I am sure you want to arrive at your new home with clean possessions and no libraries or video shops chasing after you for their books!
